I finally had a Starhub cable TV subscription this morning. I went to its shop at VivoCity (the nearest one from my place) and luckily, a Filipino sales officer entertained me (but not so lucky enough since Filipinos speaks better English). Anyway, since I am a foreigner, I am required to deposit an amount of Sing$250 (refundable). It’s a good thing my brother-in-law paid for it (I can’t spend a big amount like that for now, hehehe). Anyway (again), the cable subscription here is very much different as for the subscription in Naga. With Starhub, you will have to select the channels and is charged separately by group or by channel. I selected the Education, Entertainment and Kids Groups (Basic Tier), Sports Group (oh man, I miss NBA!), HBO and Star Movies (charged by channel) and syempre, TFC ($15). All-in-all, the monthly subscription rate is Sing$58.80 (half of it will be paid by my brother-in-law, yepee!). Wow, that is around Php1880.00—and I still don’t have all the channels! With Caceres Cable in Naga, you will only be charged Php425.00… I wonder when will Caceres or Sky cable put up a branch here in Singapore?
More notes with Starhub: Banyan condo units are cable ready, so I only need to setup the digital set-top box, which I brought with me from StarHub (if they will install it for me, it will take another 5 working days for them to come and I need to pay $31 for set-up fee). What I like about this digital set-top box is that it uses a card (where channels are pre-programmed) and it has an on-screen TV guide.
