Walking with the Magi

Christmas is again coming but most of us are not celebrating it in our hearts. Some only feels Christmas if there are Christmas decors at home and on the streets. As for those who have been affected by Typhoon Reming, I dont know really what is in their hearts right now. But I'm afraid that is not what Christmas is all about. We can celebrate Christmas without all these. We have forgotten its the Birthday of Jesus. Its not about Christmas trees, balls and lights. Not Santa Clause and his reindeers. But sad to say, they are more popular than Jesus, who is really the reason for the season.

I know this is the time for us to seek what is true. Just like what the Magi did during Christ’s birth (Mt.2:1-12). These wise men, known to many as the three kings (the Bible did not mention the number), are seekers of truth. They have seen a sign, a star, and did something to understand what the sign is all about. They travelled a long way. We, too, should be sensitive for God’s sign for us. It could be anything. God is giving us a sign so we can find him. One thing is for sure, God is longing to be found. Is there’s a game God doesn’t play, it’s “Hide and Seek”. He doesn’t want to hide.

The Magi did find what they were looking for. it was Jesus, and they were overjoyed with the discovery—they found what they seek. I believe, if we do found Jesus, there is gladness, there is joy. That is basically, Christ’s job description when he came to world—to give life and have it in full.

But the whole thing is incomplete if we do not do what the Magi did after they discovered the truth. The Bible says they bowed down and worship him and presented gifts of Gold, Incense and Myrrh. Gold-because He is King (a gift of Gold is usually given to a King). Incense-because is Lord (in most religion, incense is use to honor God) and Myrrh-because he is Savior (myrrh is use to embalm—why give such a gift? Because Jesus was born to die--To die for us to be save.

Have we asked ourselves why are we occupying a space on earth? What on earth are we here for? Let us now start our journey and seek for God. This Christmas, let us celebrate the season with the celebrant.
